Virgin Media is currently searching for a Payroll Services Lead to join our Employee Services team in Bradford on an initial 12-month fixed-term contract.

What’s the purpose of this job?

The successful applicant that takes on this position will report directly into Fiona Healey, our Head of Employee Services and will provide leadership and direction for the Virgin Media/Liberty Global Payroll Services groups within Finance Operations. This includes Corporate NL (Central), Corporate UK, Corporate US, Virgin Media UK and Virgin Media Ireland – roughly 16,000 employees in total! Within this role, you will have 3 direct reports each at Payroll Manager level, and approximately 10 indirect reports.

What does the job entail?

The Payroll Services Lead reports directly into Fiona Healey, our Head of Employee Services and is a key role in integrating the payroll processing and policy activities of the finance target-operating model. This role will create a positive and supportive culture that encourages individual development, knowledge transfer and succession whilst providing leadership, operational support and development to your team.

This is a new role to the team and there is a real opportunity to make it your own, driving strategy, governance and accuracy, building stakeholder relationships and engaging those at each level, as well as driving process improvements across the Payroll Services team.

Your duties will be wide ranging, but ultimately you will:

•    Lead on defining, developing and delivering the Payroll Services strategy to maximise cost effectiveness, aligned with business needs, comply with legal requirements and to reflect current Shared Services / HR / Payroll best practise benchmarked standards•    Lead on Payroll Services initiatives / improvements / projects to ensure a high level of delivery and compliance•    Make key decisions in relation to Payroll Services, including structure of all services provided, methods and times scales.•    Determine the compliance of employees working overseas and manage the process for new assignments including salary, tax and social security.•    Organize the total incorporated duties including payroll processing, payroll taxes, evaluating and improving procedures and policies and also carry out internal regulations, system evaluation and upgrade•    Operate in alignment with the outsource delivery model the Payroll Services Lead is responsible for stakeholder managing the outsource partner in their delivery of the transactional payroll processes against agreed service level agreements to Liberty Global & Virgin Media employees.•    Lead specialists / SME’s to enhance and continuously improve value adding services•    Provide consistent reporting, processing and payment by Op Co in compliance with LG & VM policy, recognised best practice•    Take ownership of reporting & Reconciliation of all Payroll Costs delivered to the Group CFO•    Lead on current and future local payroll tax rules to ensure compliance

•    Full membership of payroll related profession e.g. CIPP or proven competency in running a payroll service.•    Broad knowledge of external Payroll/Shared Services developments and emerging best practice•    Previous experience in a generalist payroll role at management level in a commercial environment with a background of delivering a proactive service and implementing a strategy in line with business objectives•    In depth knowledge of PAYE,  NI legislation, payroll processing including month end and year end activities•    Knowledge of cross border payroll complexity and company pension schemes, as well as an understanding of interfaces between payroll, finance and pensions•    A high level of skills and proven experience in managing major organisational change, including organisational design, organisational integration, TUPE and restructures•    A leader and team player with the ability to motivate and work alongside others and share best practice with proven experience of managing high quality, results focused, people teams•    Strong Project Management Skills•    Excellent working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and application of Oracle – we have also recently implemented Workday as our Global HR System so if you have used this system previously that would be an advantage!•    Proven delivery in a shared services and BPO operating model•    Excellent leadership, change management and decision making skills•    Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders across the company•    Ability to be supportive, consultative and collaborative and to work effectively across national boundaries•    Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to translate complex system terminology into business lexicon and vice versa•    Strong problem solving and analytical skills
