Virgin Media is currently on the lookout for a Category Manager which is part of the Consumer Procurement team to join us here in Hook. This role will relocate to Reading in October 2019 when we move from Hook to our new office in Green Park.
What’s the purpose of this role?
The core purpose of the role is Business Partnering with stakeholders to establish and executesourcing strategies for commodities of spend in Virgin Media. This encompasses understandingbusiness needs, defining the sourcing approach best suited to achieving the needs, and executingthe processes involved with supplier selection and contract negotiation.
The outcome of the role is ensuring that Virgin Media realises the most value as a result of thesourcing strategies and supplier relationships. This includes quality of product/service, competitivepricing and commercials, and risk mitigation through contracting.
Virgin Media Procurement works in a matrix structure with Global Category Managers. For somecommodities, this role will own the end to end category management; for other commodities, therole with liaise with the Global lead in developing the strategy and executing it locally.
What does the job entail?
As a Category Manager you would be responsible for a number of key activities including a few of the following:
Establish effective stakeholder relationships in commodity areas of spend within scope· Build a good understanding of the business strategy and requirements· Constructively challenge and propose alternatives to requirements which may result in improvedoutcomes· Develop a good understanding of commodity supply markets, including key suppliers, costdrivers, negotiation levers, market dynamics, risks and Virgin Media’s historic and forecast spend· Bring to the business initiatives on how Virgin Media can achieve further value from its spend oncommodities· Work in partnership with Commercial Finance to understand budgets and forecasts, and to aligninitiatives and projects to business planning· Create and document sourcing strategies using standard templates which articulate how VirginMedia will optimise value in meeting the business needs· Achieve stakeholder buy-in to the proposed sourcing strategies through effectivecommunication and influencing skills· Effectively manage RfX process and objectively evaluate responses to inform supplier selection· Plan and lead negotiations and deliver target outcomes, including price, service levels, quality,and key contractual terms· Ensure all contracts are reviewed, approved and stored on Ariba· Develop collaborative relationships with key suppliers to drive performance and harness ideasfor continuous improvement or innovation· Participate in the development of the Procurement Annual Operating Plan (AOP) by loadingsavings initiatives into the online tool
· Ensure all monthly reporting of savings, contracts, and other required information is completedaccurately and on time· Ensure risk and issues are identified in a timely manner and actively mitigated· Support all activities to drive supplier adherence with Virgin Media’s CSR commitments· Provide operational support the Senior Category Managers when required

· 3 – 5 years of experience working in a Procurement team· Experience of working in a complex, fast-paced company· Understanding of category management methodology, with some experience of commoditymanagement· Demonstrates forward planning and identifies value add opportunities· Good understanding of planning and executing negotiation strategies, with evidence of leadingnegotiations with suppliers· Understanding of applying TCO and SRM principles to drive value· Commercially astute with a track record of delivering financial benefits· Strong inter-personal skills and a good communicator both verbally and in writing· Able to work effectively as part of a team.· CIPs or similar qualifications desirable
