Love Tech? Live it!
Our Field Engineers are the people who dazzle our customers every day, by installing or fixing products in their homes and offering them advice. They also provide services to small business customers including shops, offices and homeworkers. As an apprentice, you’ll join our Consumer Field Operations team and help us deliver services to keep the nation connected.
Build skills for the future
As a Field Engineer Apprentice, you will connect our customers with the wider world all from the comfort of their own homes. Learn everything you need to know about installing and repairing our phone, TV and broadband products. Day-to-day, you could be:
- Running cables from the street to customer houses
- Measuring and adjusting signal levels to make sure our customers have the best service possible
- Installing and replacing new equipment and cables
- Configuring innovative equipment to allow customers to use our services
- Giving customers the lowdown on how their services work
You will also help grow our business by inspiring customers, through your great service, to recommend Virgin Media O2 to their friends and family members (we’ll pay you a £50 bonus payment for every new customer that gets referred!).
Thanks to our exciting four-day-week shift pattern, you’ll get approximately 20 extra days off a year compared to the average full-time job. You’ll also work around two out of every three Saturdays, with all shift schedules being agreed months in advance.
What we look for
You’ll need a full UK driving licence because you’ll be visiting customers across the region, providing them with a friendly, knowledgeable service and connecting them to what really matters. Your health and safety is important to us, so we’d prefer you to live close to the areas you’re responsible for to minimise the amount of driving you have to do. You must also be at least 18 years old and comfortable working at heights. Other than that, we’re open to meeting people of all kinds. Some qualities we would like to see include:
- Tech-savvy
- Great problem solving
- Good communication
We’re 100% committed to having a workforce that represents every part of our society, so we’re keen to hear from candidates of all backgrounds and circumstances.
What’s in it for you
The opportunity to develop your skillset and gain the experience and understanding you need if you’re to move onwards and upwards through our business. We also offer an excellent starting salary of £26,500. After an initial probationary period you will become eligible for the Encore Bonus Scheme, which gives you the opportunity to earn a performance related bonus of up to 5% of your salary (and paid quarterly!). All Virgin Media O2 apprenticeships are permanent, so once you successfully complete the apprenticeship, you will have a role as a Field Engineer waiting for you, with a salary from £29,000. Plus you’ll enjoy some amazing benefits including:
- 25 days holiday
- Your birthday off every year
- Employee discounts on mobile, broadband and TV services
…and loads more!
What is involved with studying for an apprenticeship?
Your apprenticeship is made up of learning on the job, but also gaining the academic skills to put into practice in your day-to-day job. As a result, you’ll complete the apprenticeship as part of a structured learning programme alongside working in the role. The learning programme is made up of a suite of modules and milestones and you’ll be required to evidence your work against these modules via tasks and assignments. For some apprenticeships, you may also undertake additional technical qualifications, which include studying for, and taking an exam. Once you have completed your modules and milestones, you’ll then move to your End Point Assessment (EPA) which is typically made up of an interview and a project. Once you pass this stage, you will receive your apprenticeship qualification with us.
