We recently caught up with Yasir Qureshi, Business Community Manager for Virgin Media Business to find out what he loves about his job and what it’s like to work in Sales.
The sales culture within Virgin Media Business
Here’s what Yasir had to say:
Hi Yasir, how long have your worked for Virgin Media Business (VMB)?
I joined VMB in June 2015. I started in the Desk Outbound Sales team and then progressed into Field Community Sales and now I am a SME Business Manager for the Value team.
What made you join VMB?
Before I joined Virgin Media Business I had my own company. However, due to personal circumstances, I was looking for something new, ideally within a reputable company where I could find a role that not only suited my skill set but also enabled me to develop. VMB was perfect choice because it fitted my future goals and career plans.
Can you tell me a little more about your role?
Yes of course, so as I mentioned, I’m an SME business manager and I’m aligned to the Northwest. Currently I specialise in the connectivity solutions for businesses with up to 250 employees, which is classed as a Small to Medium size organisations.
What’s made you stay with the business?
From day one I knew I made the right choice joining Virgin Media Business. I was incredibly impressed with the interactive training provided in a completely new sector. It added great value to my sales experience. Also, the way the company incentivizes the hard work is truly commendable.
That’s really great to hear, so would you say there are many progression opportunities?
Most definitely! Progression is so common within my area of the business. 80% of the people that joined same time as me have been promoted in the last two years. It’s really esthetic to see that employees are recognized for the hard work they put in.
What’s it like to work for Virgin Media Business? Can you tell me more about the culture?
VMB has a rich, diverse and inclusive culture it’s a very team focused environment. We are from all different backgrounds and walks of life. We are very multicultural. Everyone is so helpful and Virgin Media Business is very respectful of our religions. As a Muslim, it’s important for me that there is a prayer room and we have one here.
Do you feel that you have a good work life balance?
I would say that working in sales is much like being self-employed. You have to be motivated to get the job done. It can be difficult at times but if you manage your time and you ensure that you know what your targets are and you are determined to reach them then you can achieve your goals and still have a great social life.
What one piece of advice would you give to a candidate interested in working in Sales for VMB?
Be innovative and share great ideas.
