An introduction to Dan: VMB Intern

Dan. VMB Marketing Intern. Class of 2017.

Hi there, my names Dan and I am the 2017/18 Marketing intern for Virgin Media Business; prior to my year in industry I studied Business Management at the University of Leeds and always had an soft spot for Marketing after running a viral social media account. The VMB placement caught my eye due to the vibrant culture the company gives out as well as the fantastic reviews across various placement websites.

At the time of writing this I am currently 2 months into my placement and I already feel as if I am a trusted member of the team. I help support various projects as well as having complete ownership of others – something I never thought would be possible during a year in industry.

Looking back over the past two months it’s hard to believe how much I have learnt. Being inside a fast moving company such as Virgin gives an invaluable insight into the everyday inner workings of the Marketing team, and I find this has really helped develop my commercial awareness – an experience I find so important as it is unlikely such business situations would ever arise from inside university.

One of the great things about working for Virgin Media is that there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in things that wouldn’t necessarily be classed as the ‘norm’. Just last week we had a fantastic team meeting as we ventured out to Leamington Spa for a tour around the National Guide Dog Breeding Centre (a customer of Virgin Media Business).

During the tour we got to experience what is known as a sensory tunnel – a tunnel that gives a brief insight into what many people with visionary impairments deal with on a day to day basis, and the experience really puts a lot of life problems into perspective.

Experiences such as this are one of the many great perks of working for a company such as Virgin Media Business (not to mention the discounts), and I can’t wait to carry on my year developing my skills and really challenging myself.
