Hi Rebecca, lovely to meet you! How’s your first week been at Virgin Media so far?
I’ve found my first week at Virgin Media very enjoyable. The culture of Virgin Media is very friendly and inclusive and one thing that’s really stood out to me is how everyone is happy to help with anything, big or small.
What type of apprenticeship you’re doing? And why did you choose this apprenticeship?
I’d doing a Higher Apprenticeship in HR, working towards a CIPD qualification. I chose this apprenticeship mainly because I was looking to build on my level 3 qualifications I gained in college. I decided that I wanted to get started within a business and learn first-hand, whilst gaining professional qualifications, something which I wouldn’t have been able to do should I have gone down the university route.
What made you choose a career with Virgin Media?
I chose Virgin Media because of their friendly culture and the fact I felt most at home here. I also saw a lot of development opportunities here and there was a real emphasis on the fact that even after my apprenticeship has ended there would be many different opportunities within the business for me to go into and develop further.
That’s awesome! How did you find the interview process?
The interview process for me was relatively straight forward. It consisted of four stages which included a telephone interview, 1st face to face interview with my hiring manager, 2nd face to face interview with another manager and my teams lead and finally a task exercise. This task was useful to me as it meant that I could have some insight into the type of work I would be doing for the company.
Before you started, what was your perception of Virgin Media?
My first thoughts of Virgin Media was that it was a very tech focused business, which it is, however equally there are also a lot of other departments and job roles which make up the business too. I was shocked to learn that Virgin Media are now offering apprenticeship’s not just in field based roles which hasn’t previously been done before. This is great for people who are interested in other areas of the business but would rather go down an apprenticeship route.
What do you think of Virgin Media so far? Is it what you expected?
I was quite nervous as to what to expect from Virgin Media. But everyone is so friendly and helpful that I didn’t need to be worried at all!
If you had to give one piece of advice to someone looking to do an apprenticeship with us, what would it be?
Do some research on the company and the job role you are applying for and try and be yourself as Virgin Media are really focused on the individuals that work for them so try and let your personality shine through within your interview.
