Life as a Network Engineer Apprentice

Life as a Network Engineer Apprentice

Hi my name is Nathan; I joined Virgin Media in august 2016 as an apprentice network engineer. Prior to joining VM I was working in recruitment for the aviation industry. I had no previous Telecoms experience before starting in the company but was up for the challenge that lay ahead.

As a network engineer the tasks that I conduct are varied. Our main tasks are fixing faults, conducting regulatory and targeted maintenance and undergoing technical upgrades and expansion tasks on the virgin media network. The part of my role I enjoy the most is that each day is different. I never know what jobs will come through to me; it’s that unpredictable side of the business I love.

As most people would expect, there is heavy amount of learning involved in the apprenticeship, whoever the support, resources and training you get from trainers, mentors, managers and colleagues is world class.

This coming year I am looking forward to progressing through my apprenticeship, continuing my learning and developing more knowledge of the Virgin Media network. I am also looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead of working in a fast paced, 365 day a year industry.

If 2017 is your year for change, and you are considering a career that is fast paced, rewarding and to have the opportunity to work in a major company at the same time, then I would strongly recommend a Virgin Media apprenticeship. It is a fantastic opportunity to learn some excellent skills, meet some great people and to develop your career with in one of the biggest teams in the UK.
