Let’s talk about what you’ll be doing…

Working closely with others, you’ll learn how to champion our safety values and provide expert assistance and advice at every level of the business. Day to day, this could involve delivering workshops, investigating accidents, monitoring performance, and providing support to our teams and partners, as well as coming up with new ways to keep people away from danger. You’ll also be responsible for making sure we stick to our legal and ethical requirements.

How are you going to get there?

We’re looking for people who have a safety-first attitude and who are genuinely interested in gaining the experience needed to lead our Zero Harm agenda in the future. Throughout the scheme, you’ll have lots of opportunities to develop your organisational, communication and people skills – and by the end of the apprenticeship, your scheme mentor and workmates will have helped you add lots more capabilities to your locker. Apprenticeship: Level 3, Safety, Health and Environment Technician

Finance Assistant (open now!)

Let’s talk about what you’ll be doing…
You’ll be working as an Accounts Assistant within our Management Accounts function. This forms part of a wider Shared Service team based in Bradford, which in addition to Finance also includes Claims, Finance Systems, Payment Operations and Employee Services to the whole of Virgin Media.

This is a wide-ranging role that gives you responsibility for the end-to-end invoicing process – and that means doing everything from validating invoices to managing approvals for payment, from handling queries to resolving disputes.

…and what you’re going to learn…
Through formal training and development as well as the experience you gain on the job, you will be able to develop a wide range of skills including:

  • Data analysis and manipulation
  • Financial acumen
  • Communication
  • Multiple systems and applications

By the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll also have achieved your AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting. This will be a great kick start to a career in Finance!

How are you going to get there?
We’re looking for people who are serious about learning and growing, particularly within a Finance environment, and who can take a logical, methodical and proactive approach to work. Good Microsoft Office skills are essential (especially Excel), however we will ensure that you receive the necessary training to make you experts by the end of your apprenticeship. Your scheme mentor and workmates will also help you to add lots more capabilities to your skills locker. Plus you’ll enjoy a great salary with amazing benefits from the start!

Apprenticeship: Level 3 Assistant Accountant
Duration: 18 months
Location: Bradford
Requirements: 5 GCSEs including English and Maths grade C / 4 or above. Next to this either an A-level (or equivalent) qualification or a minimum of 12 month work experience in an office environment.

Being an apprentice Business Administrator puts you right at the heart of the action. Taking charge of a wide range of organisational tasks, and interacting with everyone around you, you’ll soon become a trusted and valued cog at the centre of your team.

As well as becoming an expert at handling all kinds of information requests, you’ll gain experience in many different areas including:

  • Compiling analytical reports
  • Maintaining and developing department tools
  • Tracking and monitoring technical work
  • Compliance and security issues such as GDPR

How are you going to get there?

You need to be the kind of person others can trust. That means being a great problem-solver with bags of initiative who can always be relied on to do the right thing. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is also important (especially those handy keyboard shortcuts!). And by the end of the apprenticeship, your scheme mentor and workmates will have helped you add lots more skills to your locker – from data interpretation to relationship-building.

They’re the eagle-eyed number lovers who are constantly unravelling the figures and coming up with ways to improve our business. They detail statistics. They predict future trends. Let’s talk about what you’ll be doing…
Being a Data Analyst Apprentice puts you right in the heart of our Mechanical & Electrical Capacity Planning team, where you’ll be collating, analysing and reporting on data associated with power and air conditioning equipment supporting our technical areas. The role involves interfacing not just with our monitoring systems but also with the many different colleagues, customers and suppliers who provide the information we need to manage our infrastructure.

…and what you’re going to learn…
Virgin Media is a data-rich organisation. So, on this programme, there are going to be almost limitless opportunities for you to use data to provide insight and drive our commercial value and decision-making. Specific areas you can gain experience in include:

  • Consumer analytics
  • Business intelligence
  • Strategy and planning

How are you going to get there?
We’re looking for people who can provide critical insight across our operations. So, it’s important that you can make sense of complex data and explain it in ways that everyone can understand, although don’t worry, we’ll teach you to become a pro at this!  If you also have some knowledge of data science methods, processes and systems, even better. Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills are also essential. By the end of the apprenticeship, your scheme mentor and workmates will have helped you gain the knowledge, experience and exposure you need to enjoy a fantastic career as an Insight Analyst, Commercial Manager or Business Strategist. This is an exciting time to join our Data Scientist Apprenticeship Scheme. Virgin Media Business Wholesale is part of the wider Virgin Media family who are currently making the largest investment in the UK’s digital infrastructure for over a decade – with a £3bn programme set to bring our ground-breaking network to 17m homes and businesses.

We’re looking for analytics enthusiasts to become part of our Data & Performance Management team, which cover data research, data analysis, delivery and performance. You’ll be championing the application of data to influence our future business decisions and strategy.

Using your technical expertise, you’ll be translating business challenges into analytics – creating propensity and segmentation models to find key insights – that can help solve everyday business problems. You’ll also need to be able to communicate your findings in a way that can be easily interpreted by some who may not be as smart as you!

And, you’ll develop your programming skills in various languages, including R, SQL and Python, to create and manage algorithms and complex optimisations that keep Virgin Media Business Wholesale ahead of the pace.

How are you going to get there?
As a Level 7 Apprentice, you will need to be educated to degree level or above as well as being able to show you can apply advanced analytical and statistical methods in industry.

Risk and compliance is a growing area of employment that’s tailormade for anyone interested in law or accounting – who’s also a devil for detail!

As part of our Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship Scheme, we welcome women and men to get involved in all sorts of compliance issues that help reduce business risks within Virgin Media.

At Virgin Media, all our Apprenticeship Schemes are offered on permanent contracts. And, around 90% of apprentices stay on with us – while others will have gained transferable skills that are sought after elsewhere.

Let’s talk about what you’ll be doing…

Regulatory Compliance Officers basically ensure that businesses stick to government laws and regulations – such as commercial licensing, training, insurance and taxes. Making sure we all play by the rules.

With fantastic help from your scheme mentor and other workmates, you’ll learn how to manage complaints, support internal policies, assess risks, present reports, improve awareness and make sure that our projects are always in line with the law!

We’ll also need you to be able to build trust and professional relationships with key partners, give advice to senior colleagues and travel throughout the UK as and when you’re needed.

How are you going to get there?

You’ll need GCSEs in Maths and English (Grades C+/ 4-9) or equivalent, but we’re more interested in people’s attitude and personality than their qualifications.

There will be times when you’ll need to present your compliance findings to other areas of the business – so you’ll also need excellent written and communication skills, a meticulous eye for detail and the confidence to challenge the status quo and improve our performance.

Flexible travel throughout the UK, as and when needed, may also be necessary.
