Making the most of our Ride To Work scheme

I’ve ridden to work on and off for years, I rode a mountain which requires a little more effort than a streamlined road bike, but I got fed up of people going past me as if they were putting no effort in so thought “if you can’t beat them, join them!” and took the opportunity to sign up to the Ride-to-Work scheme to get myself a road bike.

The process was nice and simple – specify how much you want to spend on your bike and accessories and when you receive your vouchers, your search for a bike can begin, using our partner, Evans Cycles.

You can look on their website and purchase from there or do what I did, which was go to my nearest store and sit on a few to make sure I got the right one. The voucher could be used on ‘Sale’ bikes too so there can be some real bargains! I chose my bike and some accessories and the rest is history.

I wanted to get out a bit more so got in touch with a local cycling group and extended from commutes to scenic group rides around the Gower and beyond. Since getting my bike a few years ago, I have conquered some great rides and milestones.

More recently, I took part in the Liberty Global charity event ‘The Big Ride For Africa’ with four of my colleagues from the Swansea office – two of which; Andrew Denner and Craig Ellery are also part of the Ride-to-Work scheme, and joined employees from all over Europe in Germany to complete 200 kilometers in 2 days and raise £10,000 for Education for children in Africa.

Cycling really opens your world to some beautiful scenery whilst getting fit at the same time. It’s the best of both worlds!
