Just like other Virgin brands, we’re the brainchild of Sir Richard Branson. Way back in 1999, before phones went smart and media went social, savvy Sir Richard spotted an opportunity to bring a new mobile phone network to the UK – and Virgin Mobile was born.
On the other side of town, two of the biggest players in the cable market – NTL and Telewest – merged. Pioneers after Sir Richard’s own heart, they knew a good thing when they saw it, and in 2006 bought us for an eye-watering £962 million (honey, we’re worth it). Smart move guys, together we’ve flourished ever since. In 2007, the whole company took our name (a true sign of commitment) and boom! We’re Virgin Media.
