My job as a Telesales Manager is to lead my team to be the very best sales people they can be.
As a Telesales Advisor, you could be making 50 calls a day, you may only get through to that 1 person who wants to speak to you, so you’ve got to be really resilient as well because you will get knock backs every day.
We have a huddle in the morning talking about what went well the previous day, we do feedback on calls and your constantly having to learn new products, new services and learning what the competitors are doing. We are very target driven in sales, so if you don’t like targets then your really not going to fit in. So you need to be able to reach those targets but also exceed them which means you are going to earn more money.
You have to work as a team because you’ve all got that same goal to be the best and as long as everybody’s got that mentality that means the results are going to look after themselves.
I work in direct sales, I’m a Field Sales Manager. We knock on people doors to sell them Virgin Media products. We do it in all weathers and today is a nice day!
Normally it could be -2 and you’ve still got to get out there and get the sales. If it was easy everyone would be doing it.
This is one of the toughest jobs you can get in sales.
To be a really good sales advisor you’ve got to literally got to be able to knock on 200 doors a day, you’ve got to handle rejection really well. Somebody who can, day in day out, convert a non interested customer to a sale. Someone with a bright personality, a big smile, someone who fills a room when they walk in.
There are great incentives, the best performing advisors and the best performing managers win a trip – 5 nights in Barbados, we went to Monaco last year. It’s probably one of the toughest jobs but it pays the best.
I’m a Field Sales Manager at Virgin Venue.
Virgin Venue’s are mobile retail sites, we have over 70 outlets across the UK.
You will find us in shopping malls, retail parks and a wide range of other venues with high customer foot fall. We do what you call interruption sales, which means stopping people that are going about their daily activities and selling them the Virgin Media products and services.
We have a sales target of 28 customers a month which means we have to constantly pitch, constantly be excited, constantly on your feet, have to have a smile on our face, make eye contact, stop people.
This is quite a tough job. You have to be thick skinned or you won’t last the day. Most people will say no to you, but the commission structure, target earnings, incentives all make it worthwhile.
Our job is to make people feel important. One way of making people feel important is to make them smile. So we use ice breakers, it could be complementing their shoes, complementing their hair – basically anything to stop them and talk to us.
I love the company, I love the brand, I love the Virgin values and I can’t imagine working anywhere else!
Sales Executive it really the base of the brand, so it’s about what you represent to the customer so they walk away, knowing everything they know about Virgin because they met you.
To be a great Sales Exec, which is what we look for, you need to be driven and have a really strong work ethic. Somebody who is really willing to come in every day and give it everything they have. You really have to be a people person who is really friendly and really enjoys just meeting other people.
So if you know that you enjoy that interaction every day, you are not going to find this job tough at all because you are going to enjoy the challenges that come forth and you’re going to enjoy the ride.
A sales executive doesn’t exactly work a 9-5 job. It is very flexible. You meet different people every day and you work with different people every day – it keeps it spicy, it keeps it exciting!
The payoff is fantastic, if you work hard you’ll be rewarded. We don’t go with the whole commission thing – its bonus, bonus, bonus. So what you put into the role is exactly what you will get out of it.
We are a challenger brand. We are always staying ahead of the competition and that’s because we challenge ourselves, so that we can just be way ahead with new innovative ideas. It doesn’t feel like you are working for just any other company, it feels like you are growing somewhere with the company.
So... Virgin Media – I love it!
