When uploading your CV, please also upload a brief explanation detailing why you want to work for Virgin Media and why this specific apprenticeship stands out for you. We get lots of applications, so please use this opportunity to stand out from the crowd.

So why us?

In 2017, we announced our long-term vision of achieving gender parity by 2025. It’s super important for us to reflect the communities that we serve, particularly for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) roles. That’s why we’re looking for loads of great men and women who want a new challenge! It’s all about getting the best from a diverse workforce, so we are encouraging you to bring your skills to a more tech-based role.

We’re offering a fantastic opportunity to join our 2018 Apprenticeship scheme as a Data Analyst Apprentice, in the Lightning organisation -the team who work to expand our network to more homes & businesses. There’ll be lots of support along the way, and you’ll be able to learn what makes our network so special from the experts in your own team.

What is the job?

With the help of your scheme mentor and other colleagues, you’ll learn how to provide critical insight to all areas of the Lightning organisation. You’ll be able to identify trends and patterns in the data, helping us to deepen our understanding of the network and allowing us to optimise it in the future.

You’ll be responsible for providing key reports for the whole team, as well as learning how to develop new reports to meet changing business needs. We’ll also be looking for you to be able to take initiative, offering improvements to existing reports and integrating the latest data.

In addition to providing reporting and insight to areas of the team, you’ll be collaborating with team mates to develop cutting-edge modelling tools, used by Liberty Global to understand and manage our cable network across 1,700 sites.

So, what do we need from you?

Passion and determination are important - you’ll need to work hard and see the training through. We’re looking for good influencing and communication skills, excellent time-keeping, and a focus on delivering a high-quality service.

Qualification wise, we’d like you to have the following:

Educated to UK ‘A’ level or equivalent in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) Subjects.

GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C or above (or equivalent qualifications).

* Strong influencing, communication and organisational skills
* Excellent people skills (engaging, listening and understanding people’s needs)

A general understanding of networks would be useful - but don’t worry, we’ll teach you everything you need to know (and lots more besides!).

You’ll be working with data a lot in your role, so confidence with MS Excel and Microsoft Office is highly desirable. You should have a strong desire to learn and become competent in data science methods, processes and systems; applying these will enable you to drive tangible benefits for the team. Any experience in statistics, machine learning, R, SQL, Hadoop, .Net, C# or data visualisation tools would be beneficial, but not essential - we just need you to be willing to learn!

Come and be a part of something special - join and you’ll be part of the Virgin Media family. You can trust us to do the right thing by you. We’re a great place to work - and we offer impressive benefits too. Get ready for a generous holiday allowance, contributory pension, and of course, discounts on our fantastic mobile, broadband and cable products. Your desk is ready, all that’s missing is you!

We have a clear aim to achieve a 50/50 gender balanced workforce by 2025 and encourage applicants from females to all our apprentice roles.

We are proud to work with Everywoman to champion the advancement of women in business, and through our partnership with Scope to help one million disabled people get into and stay in work by the end of 2020. We strive to build a diverse and sustainable workforce where gender balance and parity are integral features of our workplace, and where disabled candidates and employees can confidently perform to their full potential through our Work with Me adjustment process. If you are thinking about applying for a job with us and have a condition or impairment that could impact your performance we’ll be happy to work with you to explore adjustment options.
