We have an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Co-ordinator to join Virgin Media. Reporting into the Pay Services Manager, you will be responsible for the payroll accounting facility for our parent company, Liberty Global. This involves the accurate and timely processing of all payroll credit transfers for the employees of Liberty Global in accordance with both statutory and company rules and in a way that positively impacts customer effectiveness, efficiency, and confidence.
Within this role your duties will be wide ranging, but ultimately you will be responsible for:
* Managing the simulation and subsequent processing of the payroll accounting interface for Liberty Global.
* Managing the accurate and punctual processing of all payroll payments for all Liberty Global employees.
* Action workflow requests in a timely and consistent manner
* Ensuring that advice and service given to managers, employees and external organisations are of a high quality and delivered in a customer focused way
* Ensure compliance with all relevant payroll related legislation and statuary obligations
* Production of all payroll related management information before, during and after the payroll run, to facilitate the consistent production of correct, punctual and effective payments to all employees and third parties.
* Liaise with the HMRC, Benefits Agency, Contributions Agency and our partners, providing information as required, in accordance with confidentiality and data protection procedures
* Ensure that any errors highlighted in payroll posting simulation runs are resolved so that subsequent payroll interface posting run is error free.
* Personally check the payroll ‘Trends' and associated reports prior to authorising the production of BACS files.
* Manage the collection and collation of all Benefit-in-Kind details. To include assessment and reporting of car, fuel, private medical insurance and staff concessionary loan information, for relevant employees as defined by the HMRC, to enable tax liability to be calculated.
* Ensure the administration of non-statutory/voluntary deductions and Attachment of Earnings Orders, is managed in an orderly and efficient manner so that deductions are made through the payroll in accordance with company rules and/or legislation.
* Ensure that deductions made on behalf of the employees of Liberty Global are accounted for and returns, including payment, are made to the appropriate organisations.
* Manage the Bank Automated Clearing Systems (BACS) and General Ledger costing interface process. Ensuring that valid bank details are maintained to enable all employees of Liberty Global to receive payments to the specified account at the correct time.
* Ensure external organisations (e.g. HMRC, CSA, Banks, Building Societies, DoE, Courts and solicitors) are furnished with prompt and accurate replies to enquiries and that there is a courteous, accurate and prompt response to queries arising from Personnel and Staff Clerks or individual employees
* Provide summary and detailed employee returns to Department of Employment, HMRC and Courts.
So what are we looking for?
* A thorough knowledge and understanding of payroll processes and procedures, particularly those relating to the BACS process and company pension schemes.
* Detailed and practical knowledge of statutory legislation pertinent to Income Tax (PAYE), National Insurance, SSP, SMP, SPP and SAP and Salary sacrifice, Benefits in Kind and Attachment of Earning Orders.
* A good understanding of external Payroll/Shared Services developments and emerging best practice
* Knowledge of general accounting principles
* A good understanding of managing payroll in a diverse organisation
* Experience of providing detailed and timely pay and management information advice.
* Proven experience of managing complex, high volume pay processes in an efficient and effective manner
* Knowledge of the company pension schemes
* Understanding of interfaces between payroll and finance and pensions
* In depth knowledge of payroll processing including month end and year end activities
* Able to fully utilise standard Microsoft Office products and the application of Oracle and workflow/case management, with MS Excel to intermediate level.
* A high degree of inter-personal skills is essential, in an environment where conflicting priorities can result in delays and failures, to ensure that no deadlines are ever missed
